Monday Mojo- Hexagons

Have you seen the new trend to use hexagon shapes? I have to say that I'm loving hexagons these days and I'm seeing them everywhere. There are hexagon designed patterned papers, dies, stamps and embellishments.

Here's a mini card using this trendy shape made with a homemade hexagon template and some scraps of Simple Stories Summer Fresh Paper. Stamps used are by Hero Arts: Graph Background, Picnic Clear Set, and Made with Love Clear set.

Want to try some hexagons on your next project? Here's a sampling of hexagon themed products......

Clockwise from top left there's papers from Lily Bee Victoria Park, Echo Park So Happy Together and Authentique Carefree; Pink Paislee Chipboard tiles; Tim Holtz-Sizzix Texture Fades; My Favorite Things Die-namics Hexagon Die; and stamps by Stampers Anonymous-Tim Holtz, Paper Smooches and IO Stamps.

We'd like to know if you want these products carried in the store, leave a comment or call Linda and tell her you want Hexagons! 714 974-3552

Quick Tip Friday

Do you have lots of border punches...maybe you are looking for a new way to use them that's quick and easy? Try using them to create a misting mask!

I used a large EKSuccess border punch, a sheet of plain copy paper and mists in 2 colors.

I punched the border in the thin paper then positioned it over my card stock panel. I used some removable tape to hold the masks in place before misting.  I'm sorry I don't have a photo of the mask before I sprayed, completely forgot to snap a couple of steps.

As you can see the paper gets pretty saturated so it's a one use mask. Using paper for the mask creates a soft watercolor look rather than the clean edge that you would get from using a plastic mask.
I should add that you will want to clear a pretty wide area and cover your desk.
I should also report that I'm sporting one really pretty pink misted hand!

Once I sprayed with the pink mist, I took a clean sheet of paper and masked off the top of the card.
Then I sprayed with the second lighter mist. I didn't bother covering the first color, since it's darker it wasn't affected by the second misting.

All that is left is to trim your card stock, do a little stamping and embellishing, layer with a mat and
you've got yourself a unique clean and simple card for any occasion.

Products used for this project: EK Success Border Punch, Dylusions Ink Spray in Bubblegum, Mister Huey's Color Mist in Dewey, Hero Arts Black Dye ink, Picked Raspberry Distress ink, Neenah Solar White Cardstock, Black cardstock, satin ribbon, Tombow Stamp Runner, Scrapbook Adhesives 3D Foam Squares
Stamps by Hero Arts: Untitled Word Shadow AC005, Truly Appreciated clear sentiment set CL380

We would love to see your misted border projects if you would like to add your link to the collection below.  Just click on the blue frog below and follow the directions to add your name and the link to your blog post, Flickr photo or other online photo gallery.
We can't wait to see your misted projects using a border punch as a mask!

Design Team Wednesday

We wasted no time giving our newest Design Team member her first opportunity to share some of her crafty ideas with you.

Here's Lynette with Design Team Wednesday:

This is a tip on how you can have a very cheap and economical pad to do your stamping on, and you don't have to clean it. The photo below shows two different sized office paper pads that I use, one is 5"x7" and the other is 8 1/2"x11".  When the top sheet gets all inky and dirty you just tear it off and throw it away and the pad is then ready for the next project.

An additional benefit is the lines on the paper can be used to align the stamps as you are inking. The photo's below show how I aligned the printed paper and border stamp with the lines on the paper pad.

Stamp: Belinda's Borders by Lawn Fawn

This technique really does help in keeping your stamped images straight.
I hope you find this little tip helpful………………Lynette

Thanks for stopping by...leave us a comment, we'd love to hear from you.

Quick Tip- Custom Patterns

Have you ever been playing with your favorite new patterned paper collection and wished you had just one more pattern to pull it all together? I had just that situation this week when working on cards for my next card class. I was using the new Simple Stories Summer Fresh 6x6 paper collection, which is in stock in the store right now.
I thought the perfect thing would be a great faded blue denim pattern with the pretty plaid paper. But I didn't have any denim paper...what to do?.....what to do? I just happened to be wearing the perfect denim pattern....my jeans!

You guessed it....I scanned my jeans! (not the ones I was wearing, mind you). Once scanned and edited to tweak the color and contrast I opened the image in MS Publisher (my go-to program for such things) to crop and create a printable sheet of denim.

Then I was off to make my version of Summer Fresh with some fun new Lawn Fawn Stamps: Make Lemonade and Happy Summer (also in stock right now)

Are you looking for the perfect pattern to finish your project in style? Look in the mirror, you just may be wearing it!

Welcoming a New Design Team Member

We are so pleased to announce that Lynette Lundquist has joined our little band of designers. She brings a fresh perspective to stamping and always has a little DIY twist to share in her classes. She doesn't have a blog or online gallery...yet; we are working on it.

Hi my name is Lynette,
My husband and I have lived for 25 years in a quaint little neighborhood in Garden Grove. Much of our time is spent maintaining the yard and a 59 year old house. Good thing I love to do carpentry and gardening!  Recently after working for 34 years as a drafting technician I decided to take an early retirement and pursue other interests, stamping being one of them. This artistic field is fairly new to me and I've only been involved in it seriously for 3 years, but just love it!  I'm not sure what you would call my style, but I do love to create things with paper and add a splash of inkiness. I'm always open to new ideas and looking forward to working with the Stamp Fever Design Team to help plant a little seed of creativity in your life. See you at the shop!

Here's a few peeks at Lynette's creativity:

 Can you say Do-it-Yourself chipboard?
Lynette designed these sweet note pads using homemade chipboard!

And how about some DIY Washi Tape...
Lynette just taught a class where she not only used this trendy embellishment but showed how you can make your own. She included a sweet washi tape holder, card and tag in the class!

I'm sure you will all love the classes that Lynette will be teaching in the coming months. Look for her in the store during Shop Hop and give her a warm welcome!
